I don’t know about you, but I (Julianna) never know which key is which when I’m coming home. My keychain looks like a high school janitor’s, and I stand at my front door juggling groceries, trying every key on my chain.
That is, until recently when I said, NO MORE. I needed a solution. I didn’t want bulky key covers, so I pulled out my trusty supply of Washi tape (Japanese masking tape) and made these cute color-coded keys. There are tons of great sites that sell Washi tape, here’s a link to my favorite: Pretty Tape on Etsy.
- Boring ol’ house keys
- Washi Tape
- Scissors or an X-Acto knife
- Nail polish topcoat
Place a piece of Washi tape on one side of one key. Turn the key over, and use scissors or an X-Acto knife to cut the excess tape off the edges of the key. Repeat this process on the other side of the key. Keep cutting pieces of Washi tape and adding them to the key until you’re happy with how it looks. Apply a clear topcoat of nail polish to each key and allow to dry. The end!
